                Example 1. A box contains 144 mangoes.

Find the number of mangoes in 208 such boxes. TTh Th H T O
                                                                                                              1 4 4
Solution. Number of mangoes in a box = 144
                                                                                                   × 2 0 8
                Number of boxes = 208
                                                                                                           1 1 5 2
                Number of mangoes in 208 boxes = 144 × 208 0 0 0 0
                                                           = 29952 + 2 8 8 0 0

                Therefore, the total number of mangoes in 208 boxes 2 9 9 5 2
                is 29952.

Example 2. The price of an earring is `64.

Find the total cost of 99 earrings. Th H T O

                Solution. Cost of an earring = `64 6 4
                Number of earrings = 99 × 9 9

                Cost of 99 earrings = `64 × 99 5 7 6
                                        = `6336 + 5 7 6 0

                Therefore, the total cost of 99 earrings is `6336. 6 3 3 6
