example 3. Check if 8 is a factor of:

                         a. 24 b. 36
Solution. A factor of a number is a perfect divisor. That means, it divides the given
number without leaving any remainder. By long division, let us check if the remainder
            is zero.

                                     3 4
                         a. 8 2 4 b. 8 3 6
                                – 2 4 – 3 2

                                    0 Remainder 4 Remainder

Since the remainder is 0, Since the remainder is not 0,
                             8 is a factor of 24. 8 is not a factor of 36.

                        Exercise 5C

                1. Colour the factors of the central number.

                    a. 9 10 b. 9 10 c. 9 10
                                    1 1 1
                         16 8 2 11 16 8 2 11 16 8 2 11
                             7 30 3 7 20 3 7 32 3

                          15 6 4 12 15 6 4 12 15 6 4 12
                                   5 5 5
                               14 13 14 13 14 13

                2. Colour 24 cells so that they form a rectangle. Find the multiplication fact for each.
Then, list the factors of 24 using these multiplication facts. One has been done for you.

                          (4 × 6)

                3. list all the factors of:

                    a. 45 b. 56 c. 72 d. 39 e. 13
