                                         2 5
example 1. What is of 12 apples? example 2. What is of 18 balls?
                                         3 6
                Solution. 12 ÷ 3 = 4 Solution. 18 ÷ 6 = 3
                             2 × 4 = 8 5 × 3 = 15
                        2 5
                Thus, of 12 apples = 8 apples. Thus, of 18 balls = 15 balls.
                        3 6

                example 3. Find the following:

                                 3 5 3
                             a. of a dozen b. of a minute c. of a week
                                 4 6 7

                Solution. a. 1 dozen = 12 b. 1 minute = 60 seconds c. 1 week = 7 days
                                    12 ÷ 4 = 3 60 ÷ 6 = 10 7 ÷ 7 = 1

                                     3 × 3 = 9 5 × 10 = 50 3 × 1 = 3
                                      3 5 3
So, of a dozen = 9. So, of a minute So, of a week
                                      4 6 7

                                                               = 50 seconds. = 3 days.
