            Circle designs

Many different mathematical designs can be created inside and outside a circle. The
rangoli and mandala art forms use this idea to form beautiful patterns. Let us explore.

                 1. Draw a circle with a radius of 5 cm.

Draw 8 diameters such that they
are equally spaced. This will divide
the circle into 16 equal parts. Mark
the points from 1 to 16 on the circle
                    as shown here.

               2. Join the even numbered points (2 to 3. The sides of the octagon cut the
4, 4 to 6, ...) to create an octagon. diameters at 8 points. Join these to
                                                                         create an inscribed octagon.

               4. Draw one more octagon inscribed 5. Now, join 2 to 8, 4 to 14, 6 to 12, and
in the previous octagon. 10 to 16 on the circle.
