            Face Value

The face value of a digit in a number is the digit itself. The place at which the digit is
present in the number does not matter.

example 1. Find the face value of each digit in 6,42,089.
            Solution. Face value of 6 = 6 Face value of 4 = 4

                         Face value of 2 = 2 Face value of 0 = 0 L TTh Th H T O

                         Face value of 8 = 8 Face value of 9 = 9 6 4 2 0 8 9

            Place Value

The place value of a digit depends on the place of the digit in the number.

Place value of a digit = Face value × Place the digit occupies in the number

example 2. Write the place value of each digit in the following numbers:
                        a. 5,21,603 b. 70,50,106

                                                            0 × 10 = 0
                                                            6 × 100 = 600
                                                            1 × 1,000 = 1,000

                                                            2 × 10,000 = 20,000
                                                            5 × 1,00,000 = 5,00,000
