Relationship between Different units of Weight
Let us see the units of weight and the relationships between them.
Every move to the right makes the unit 10 times smaller.
Every move to the left makes the unit 10 times bigger.
into into
Conversion from Bigger units to Smaller units
Example 1. Convert:
a. 5 kg into g b. 17 g into cg c. 250 g into mg d. 2 kg 700 g into g
Solution. a. 5 kg = (5 × 1000) g = 5000 g b. 17 g = (17 × 100) cg = 1700 cg
c. 250 g = (250 × 1000) mg d. 2 kg 700 g = 2 kg + 700 g
= 2,50,000 mg = (2 × 1000) g + 700 g
= 2000 g + 700 g
= 2700 g
Conversion from Smaller units to Bigger units
Example 2. Convert:
a. 3000 g into kg b. 500 cg into g
c. 50 mg into cg d. 24000 mg into g
Solution. a. 3000 g = (3000 ÷ 1000) kg = 3 kg
b. 500 cg = (500 ÷ 100) g = 5 g
c. 50 mg = (50 ÷ 10) cg = 5 cg
d. 24000 mg = (24000 ÷ 1000) g = 24 g
