            Some other units of Weight

In our daily life, we use several other units to measure weight. The commonly used
units for measuring larger weights include quintals and tonnes.

            Conversion: 1 quintal = 100 kg

                               1 tonne = 10 quintals = 1000 kg

            Example 3. Convert:

                           a. 3 quintals into kg b. 3000 kg into tonnes

                           c. 4200 kg into tonnes and quintals

            Solution. a. 3 quintals = (3 × 100) kg = 300 kg

                           b. 3000 kg = (3000 ÷ 1000) tonnes = 3 tonnes

                           c. 4200 kg = 4000 kg + 200 kg = 4 tonnes + 2 quintals = 4 tonnes 2 quintals

                         Exercise 7C

                1. Read the scale and write down the measurement.

                    a. b. c.

                    d. e. f.
