without Repetition of digits
With given digits, many numbers can be formed. We already know the method of
forming the smallest and the greatest number using given digits. Let us recall it.
To form the smallest number with given digits:
1. Write the smallest digit other than zero (0) at the leftmost place.
2. Then, write zero (0) if given, otherwise write the other digits in ascending order.
example 1. Write the smallest number using the following digits:
a. 9, 5, 3, 0, 1, 2 b. 7, 5, 6, 8, 3, 4
Solution. a. The smallest digit is 1 (other than 0). Tips
So, the smallest number formed by the given
digits is 1,02,359. 0 in the leftmost place
b. The smallest digit is 3. has no value.
So, the smallest number formed by the given digits is 3,45,678.
To form the greatest number with given digits:
1. Write the greatest digit at the leftmost place.
2. Then, write the other digits in descending order.
example 2. Write the greatest number using the following digits:
a. 2, 5, 9, 6, 3, 8 b. 7, 0, 3, 5, 6, 4
Solution. a. The greatest digit is 9.
So, the greatest number formed by the given digits is 9,86,532.
