Relationship between Different units of Capacity
Let us see how the units of capacity are related to each other.
Every move to the right makes the unit 10 times smaller.
(kL) (hL) (daL) (L) (dL) (cL) (mL)
Every move to the left makes the unit 10 times bigger.
into into
kL L cL mL
Conversion from Bigger units to Smaller units
Example 1. Convert:
a. 8 L into mL b. 24 dL into mL c. 21 daL into dL d. 2 kL to L
Solution. a. 8 L = (8 × 1000) mL b. 24 dL = (24 × 100) mL
= 8000 mL = 2400 mL
c. 21 daL = (21 × 100) dL d. 2 kL = (2 × 1000) L
= 2100 dL = 2000 L
Conversion from Smaller units to Bigger units
Example 2. Convert:
a. 6000 L into kL b. 300 dL to daL
c. 60 L into daL d. 3000 cL to L
Solution. a. 6000 L = (6000 ÷ 1000) kL b. 300 dL = (300 ÷ 100) daL
= 6 kL = 3 daL
c. 60 L = (60 ÷ 10) daL d. 3000 cL = (3000 ÷ 100) L
= 6 daL = 30 L
