Conversion of lower units into higher units

To convert lower units of time into higher units, we use division.

example 5. Convert 814 minutes into hours and minutes.

Solution. 60 minutes = 1 hour

814 minutes = (814 ÷ 60) hours

Quotient = 13, Remainder = 34

Thus, 814 minutes = 13 hours 34 minutes.

example 6. Convert 2206 seconds into minutes and seconds.

Solution. We know that 60 seconds = 1 minute.

So, 2206 seconds = (2206 ÷ 60) minutes.

Quotient = 36, Remainder = 46

Thus, 2206 seconds = 36 minutes 46 seconds.

example 7. Convert 688 hours into days and hours.

Solution. We know that 24 hours = 1 day.

So, 688 hours = (688 ÷ 24) days.

Quotient = 28, Remainder = 16

Thus, 688 hours = 28 days 16 hours.

example 8. Convert 365 days into weeks and days.

Solution. We know that 7 days = 1 week.

So, 365 days = (365 ÷ 7) weeks.

Quotient = 52, Remainder = 1

Thus, 365 days = 52 weeks 1 day.
