3. Arrange the following numbers in descending order:
a. 87,976, 76,049, 75,959, 9,74,792
b. 5,28,781, 4,52,678, 4,53,170, 65,467
c. 79,83,667, 79,83,678, 78,93,569, 94,00,045
d. 98,64,542, 9,86,421, 98,64,531, 98,64,521
4. Place these numbers on the number line given below.
40,347 34,407 40,473 34,740 73,404 74,430 47,340 18,926

4,572 4,574
In the picture above, two carrots are placed at two distinct points that are multiples
of 10. The hungry rabbit is at point 4,573 and wants to eat the carrot which is the
nearest to him. The carrot at point 4,580 is 4,580 – 4,573 = 7 steps away. The carrot
at point 4,570 is 4,573 – 4,570 = 3 steps away. Since 3 < 7, the carrot at point 4,570 is
the nearest. In other words we can say that the nearest ten to 4,573 is 4,570.
Here are the rules to round off numbers.
Rounding off to the Nearest 10
To round off a number to the nearest 10, follow these steps.
Step 1. Look at the ones digit of the given number.
Step 2. If the ones digit is less than 5, replace the ones digit by 0 and keep the other
digits as they are.
Step 3. If the ones digit is 5 or more, increase the tens digit by 1 and replace the ones
digit by 0, keeping the other digits as they are.
Examples: a. 913 → 910 b. 837 → 840 c. 4755 → 4760
