Step 3. Required time = 22 hours 10 minutes
= 22:10 hours = 10:10 p.m.
example 4. Subtract 18 years 9 months from 23 years.
Solution. We have: 23 years = 23 years 00 months
= 22 years 12 months
Subtract 18 years 09 months from it.
Thus, the required difference = 4 years 3 months.
example 5. The running time of a train from New Delhi to Kanpur is 6 hour 25 minutes.
If the train departs from New Delhi station at 7:15 a.m., at what time will it reach
Kanpur?
Solution. The train will reach Kanpur 6 hours 25 minutes after 7:15 a.m.
So, we add 6 hours 25 minutes to 7:15 a.m.
7:15 a.m. = 07 hours 15 minutes
6 hours 25 minutes = + 06 hours 25 minutes
Sum = 13 hours 40 minutes
Now, 13 hours 40 minutes = 1:40 p.m.
Therefore, the train will reach Kanpur at 1:40 p.m.
example 6. Mayank’s school starts at 7:30 a.m. and closes at 2:15 p.m. Find the
working hours of the school.
Solution. Closing time of the school = 2:15 p.m.
= 14:15 hours
Starting time of the school = 7:30 a.m. = 07:30 hours
Hence, working hours of the school = 14:15 hours – 07:30 hours
= 6 hours 45 minutes
Thus, the working hours of the school are 6 hours 45 minutes.
example 7. A train leaves Meerut station at 9:50 p.m. and reaches Kolkata at 5:30
a.m. the next day. Find the duration of the journey.
Solution. Departure time of the train = 9:50 p.m.
= 21:50 hours
Time interval from 9:50 p.m. to 12 midnight
= 24:00 hours – 21:50 hours = 2 hours 10 minutes
