                ApplicAtion of Money in ReAl life

                Money is used to buy goods and services. It helps us get the things we need, such as

                food, clothes, toys and even rides in a bus or taxi. In real life, we use coins, notes, or
                digital money (like cards or apps) to make payments.

                example 1. Udays father pays the bills:

                Electricity: `1,060, Water: `250, Internet: `675, and School fees: `7,040.
                            a. Find the total amount paid by him.

                            b. If he had `12,000 in his account before paying the bills, what is his
                                account balance now?
                Solution.  a. The total amount paid by him = `1,060 + `250 + `675 + `7,040 = `9,025.

                            b. Account balance after paying the bills = Initial amount – total amount
                                paid = `12,000 - `9,025 = `2,975

                example 2. Aarav wants to buy a new cricket bat costing `780. He has saved six `10
                coins, eight `20 notes, and ten `50 notes in his savings bank (gullak). Does he have
                enough money to buy the bat? How much more or less than the required amount has
                he saved?

                Solution. Aaravs total savings = 6 × `10 + 8 × `20 + 10 × `50
                                                      = `60 + `160 + `500 = `720

                We see that 720 < 780, so his saved amount is less than the required amount.

                                   Difference = `780 - `720 = `60.
                example 3. Anita wants to buy books and stationery worth `2,600. How many `200
                notes does she need for this purchase?

                Solution. Number of `200 notes for this purchase = Total amount to be paid ÷ `200
                                                                                = `2,600 ÷ `200 = 13

                                                                                                             235
