Thus, to get the price of one, we divide.

                              Cost of 6 bats = `6,300 Cost of 1 bat = (`6,300 ÷ 6) = `1,050

Example 1. The cost of 1 pencil box is `40. How much will 9 pencil boxes cost?
Solution. The cost of 1 pencil box = `40

                              The cost of 9 pencil boxes = (40 × 9) = `360

Example 2. If 8 water bottles cost `720, find the cost of 1 water bottle.

Solution. The cost of 8 water bottles = `720
                                                                               720
                              The cost of 1 water bottle = `720 ÷ 8 = ` = `90
                                                                                 8
But how do you find the cost of the required number of articles when the cost of some
                articles is given?

In such situations, first find the cost of one article and then calculate the cost of the
                required number of articles.

Example 3. The price of 10 pens is `80. What is
the price of 6 pens? Keep in Mind

                Solution.
Step 1. Divide to find the unit price. The method of finding the value of
80 a given number of articles by first
                          The price of 1 pen = `80 ÷ 10 = ` = `8 finding the value of one article
                                                                  10
Step 2. Multiply to find the total amount. (called the unit price) when the
total value of some articles is
                          The price of 6 pens = `8 × 6 = `48 given is called the unitary method.
Example 4. If the cost of 12 chocolates is `360,

find the cost of 15 chocolates.

Solution. The cost of 12 chocolates = `360
                                                               360
                              The cost of 1 chocolate = ` = `30
                                                                12

                              Cost of 15 chocolates = `(30 × 15) = `450
