example 1. Simplify: 15 × 8 ÷ 2 + 9 – 2
Solution. We have: 15 × 8 ÷ 2 + 9 – 2
Steps operation expression/result
1. 8 ÷ 2 = 4 [Division] 15 × 4 + 9 – 2
2. 15 × 4 = 60 [Multiplication] 60 + 9 – 2
3. 60 + 9 = 69 [Addition] 69 – 2
4. 69 – 2 = 67 [Subtraction] 67
Hence, 15 × 8 ÷ 2 + 9 – 2 = 67.
example 2. Simplify: 39 – 16 + 18 × 9 ÷ 3
Solution. We have: 39 – 16 + 18 × 9 ÷ 3
Steps operation expression/result
1. 9 ÷ 3 = 3 [Division] 39 – 16 + 18 × 3
2. 18 × 3 = 54 [Multiplication] 39 – 16 + 54 or 39 + 54 – 16
3. 39 + 54 = 93 [Addition] 93 – 16
4. 93 – 16 = 77 [Subtraction] 77
Hence, 39 – 16 + 18 × 9 ÷ 3 = 77.

7. 37 – 6 × 4 + 32 ÷ 4 8. 8 × 13 – 4 × 15
9. 96 ÷ 16 + 34 × 10 – 13 10. 30 – 28 + 36 ÷ 2
