B. Long answer type questions.
                  1. Describe the role of links and joints in forming a robot’s structure.
Ans. Links are rigid parts; joints connect links and allow movement. Together, they give robots flexibility and
structure, much like bones and joints in the human body.
                  2. Explain degrees of freedom with an example of a human arm vs. robotic arm.

Ans. A human arm has multiple DOFs—shoulder rotation, elbow bending, wrist turning. Similarly, a robotic arm
has DOFs at its joints, defining how freely it can move in space.
                  3. Discuss different materials used in constructing robots and their advantages.
Ans. MDF and Acrylic are low-cost, good for prototypes. Aluminium is lightweight and strong. Steel is durable
but heavy. Each material is chosen based on strength, weight, and cost needs.
                  4. Write a detailed note on workspace and payload of robots.

Ans. Workspace defines the physical area a robot can reach, while payload is the maximum load it can handle.
Together, they determine robot efficiency in industries like automobile or electronics.

                  5. Explain the significance of wheels (omni, mecanum) in robot mobility.
Ans. Special wheels allow smooth movement in all directions. Mecanum and omni wheels improve flexibility,
crucial in warehouses, factories, and research robots.

                                                                                                    21 st
              C. Competency-based questions: HOTS Century #Digital Literacy
                                                                                                   Skills
                  1. You are designing a warehouse robot to move boxes. What material and wheel type would you choose? Justify
                     your decision.
Ans. Aluminium for structure (light and strong), and omni/mecanum wheels for flexible navigation in tight
                           spaces.

                  2. Suppose your robotic arm must paint a car’s surface evenly. Which mechanical features (DOFs, workspace,
end-effector design) would be most important?

Ans. Multiple DOFs for full coverage, large workspace to reach surfaces, and a spray-paint end-effector for
                           precision.
