A folder acts like a file cabinet, allowing you to organise your files. In other words,
it is a collection of files. If you were to scatter thousands of paper files on a desk,
finding a specific one would be extremely challenging when you need it. Therefore,
people typically use folders inside filing cabinets to group files, making it simpler
to locate individual documents.
Folders not only store files but also contain other folders. A folder inside another
folder is known as a subfolder. You can create multiple subfolders within a folder,
and each of these can hold both files and additional subfolders.
ORGANISING FILE/FOLDER
When you install a program, it generates its own folder on your hard disk to store
most of its files. This setup enables your computer system to easily locate the
correct files needed to run the program.
Organising files into folders can improve your efficiency on your PC. By sorting
files into various folders, you can manage and find them more easily. Knowing how
to create, move, copy, and delete folders will enhance your file organisation and
make your work more effective.
Here is a list of some common folders where you can store your files and other
folders.
Documents : This folder is primarily used for storing word processing
documents, spreadsheets, presentations, and other
business-related files.
Pictures : This folder is used to keep all your digital images, including
those copied from a camera or downloaded from the Internet.
Music : This folder is used to store music files, including songs copied
from an audio CD or downloaded from the Internet.
Videos : This folder is used to store videos captured with a digital
camera or downloaded from the Internet.
Downloads : This folder is used to keep files that you have downloaded
from the Internet.
CREATING A NEW FILE/FOLDER
The most common way to create a new file is by using a program. But you can also
create a file without opening any program or an application.
