Start Button: It is known as the gateway to Windows and its programs. It opens

                    the Start menu when we click on it.
                    Opened Programs:  Opened  programs  are  those  that  are  currently  running.
                    These are located as buttons on the taskbar. They also contain the shortcuts to

                    open various programs.
                    Show  Desktop  Button: Windows 7 provides a new feature called  Show

                    desktop button through which you can instantly minimise your entire screen
                    to view the desktop.

                    Clock: On the right side of the taskbar, current date and time is displayed, when
                    the mouse pointer is placed on it.

                     SELECTING AND DESELECTING ICONS

                 A desktop icon can be selected by simply clicking over it.
                 You will notice that the background colour of the icon gets
                 changed.

                                               Deselecting an Icon

                                               Move the mouse pointer to an empty area on the desktop.
                                               Click the mouse button once. You will find that the icon is
                                               deselected.




                     SORTING DESKTOP ICONS

                 Sorting the icons means arranging the icons on the desktop. To sort the icons,
                 follow the given steps:

                 Step 1   Right-click on any blank area of the
                                                                                                    2
                          desktop. From the  shortcut menu
                                                                           1
                          or  pop-up menu,  click on  Sort by
                          option. A submenu appears.

                 Step 2   Click on any one option to arrange

                          the icons in that order.
